Barely a day after Gulf countries decided to issue a single visa to enter six Gulf countries, the similar news is hitting the headlines. Now, it’s United Kingdom that has decided to issue a single visa to Indian and Chinese tourists to enter UK and Ireland. UK minister for justice and equality, Fitzgerald, who has ascertained this news has said that the present system needed two visas to move between the Republic and Northern Ireland. Although a decision has been taken, the immigration experts are of the opinion that it might consume at least some decent time for this single visa policy to come into force. Meanwhile, Fitzgerald has expressed her happiness over what she called the ‘British Irish Visa Scheme.’ She exuded confidence that the new visa policy would not only be beneficial for the regular tourists but would even boost the country’s economy. Notably, the articles of agreement and other procedures are underway at the UK head office. However, the reports indicated that the Ireland Government was working closely with the UK at the latter’s head office. It may be recalled that this single visa policy existed between UK and Ireland in 1922 under the Common Travel Area. Now that the new visa policy is going to bring back the previous Common Travel Area into force, it’s surely going to promote bilateral relationships between Ireland and UK, opined industry experts. Are other countries too going to follow UK-Ireland and Gulf Countries’ single visa policies to boost the tourism, economies and bilateral ties? It’s a million dollar question!
