The Foreign Ministry of Japan has plans to relax visa requirements for few Asian countries to promote the country as a tourism-oriented one. New rules are expected to put aside visa requirements for Indonesia holding e-passports on former registration. The Ministry also plans to substantially relax both multiple-entry visa and single-entry tourism visa requirements. According to the ministry, the goal is to attract 20 million foreign visitors to benefit the growth strategies besides promoting people-to-people exchanges. However, the details of the procedures are under consideration yet. Further, beginning this summer, multiple-entry visas will be issued for Indian citizens to enter Japan. In order to boost its economy, the Japan government is aiming to double the number of overseas visitors to 20 million by the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and targeting to triple the number by 2030. Additionally, it was also decided by the government of Japan to increase the number of duty-free shops to two times throughout the country.
